Tempo Privacy Policy
Effective date: 20 August 2026
Tempo is provided by Jesse Hunt ("Tempo", "we", "us" or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains how the Tempo iOS app handles information.
For privacy questions, contact info@scenicroute.tech.
1. Privacy at a glance
Tempo is designed to work without an account or developer-operated server.
- Athlete profiles, heart-rate data and workout history are stored locally on the user's device.
- Tempo does not transmit that information to us.
- Tempo does not use advertising, third-party analytics or cross-app tracking.
- Tempo does not sell personal information.
- Apple separately processes App Store purchases and certain device services under Apple's own privacy terms.
2. Information Tempo handles on the device
Depending on how the app is used, Tempo may process the following information locally:
Athlete profiles
- Athlete names entered by the coach or user
- Heart-rate training zones
- The identifier and name of a paired Bluetooth heart-rate monitor
- Profile creation and update dates
Workout and fitness information
- Live heart-rate readings received from paired monitors
- Heart-rate history for a workout
- Average and maximum heart rate
- Heart-rate signal dropout information
- Session start and end times, duration and athlete count
- Group timer names, laps and repetition counts
- Distance, pace and the selected distance unit
Location information
During an active workout, Tempo uses precise location to calculate distance and pace. If a workout continues while the screen is locked or another app is open, location processing may continue in the background.
Location samples may be stored temporarily on the device in an active-workout recovery journal so that an interrupted workout can be restored. When the workout is completed or discarded, that temporary journal is cleared. Completed workout history stores the calculated distance, not a route map or completed-workout location history.
App preferences and technical information
Tempo stores limited preferences, such as the selected distance unit, and local identifiers needed to reconnect to paired heart-rate monitors. Temporary technical state may also be stored to recover an interrupted workout.
3. How Tempo uses this information
Tempo uses information on the device only to provide its features, including to:
- Display live heart rate and connection status
- Show athlete heart-rate zones
- Run group timers, laps and repetitions
- Calculate workout distance and pace
- Produce workout summaries and history
- Reconnect paired heart-rate monitors
- Restore an active workout after an interruption or app restart
- Apply the free and Tempo Pro feature limits
Tempo does not use athlete, heart-rate or location information for advertising, profiling or marketing.
4. Device permissions
Tempo may request the following iOS permissions:
- Bluetooth: to discover, pair with and receive readings from compatible heart-rate monitors.
- Location: to calculate distance and pace during an active workout, including in the background while that workout is running. Location tracking stops when the workout ends.
- Motion: where required by iOS components supporting distance and pace functionality. Motion information is not used for advertising or profiling and is not retained in completed workout history.
Permissions can be changed at any time in iOS Settings. If location access is disabled, Tempo can still record timers and available heart-rate information, but distance and pace may be unavailable.
5. Storage and retention
Tempo stores app information locally within the app's storage on the device.
- Athlete profiles remain until the user edits or deletes them, or deletes the app.
- Completed sessions remain in History until the user deletes them, subject to Tempo's local history limit.
- Active-workout recovery information remains only as needed to recover the workout and is cleared when the workout is completed or discarded.
- Deleting Tempo removes its local app data from the device, subject to any device backup retained by Apple under the user's iCloud or device-backup settings.
Because Tempo does not operate an account or remote database, we cannot view, retrieve, export or remotely delete information stored inside the app on a user's device.
6. Information Tempo does not collect through the app
Tempo does not transmit athlete profiles, Bluetooth monitor identifiers, heart-rate readings, workout history or precise location to us or to a Tempo-operated server.
Tempo does not include:
- Advertising SDKs
- Third-party analytics SDKs
- Cross-app tracking technology
- A cloud account or synchronisation service
- A developer-operated database of athlete or workout information
7. Apple services and purchases
Tempo Pro is offered as a non-consumable in-app purchase through Apple's StoreKit system. Apple processes the purchase, payment information, transaction history, refunds and App Store account information. Tempo receives only the information needed from Apple to determine whether Tempo Pro is available and has been purchased. We do not receive payment-card details.
Apple may also process information associated with App Store distribution, device backups, crash reports or diagnostics according to the user's Apple settings and Apple's privacy policies. Those services are operated by Apple, not by Tempo.
8. Information provided directly to us
If a person contacts us by email or another support channel, we may receive their contact details and the contents of their message. We use that information only to respond, provide support, protect Tempo and comply with legal obligations. We retain support correspondence only for as long as reasonably necessary for those purposes.
Our email or support service provider may process those communications on our behalf under its own terms and privacy commitments.
9. Sharing and disclosure
We do not sell or rent personal information.
Because Tempo's athlete and workout information remains on the device, we do not share that information with advertisers, analytics providers or data brokers. Information sent directly to us may be disclosed only:
- To service providers that help us operate our communications or support
- When reasonably necessary to protect users, Tempo or others
- When required by law, regulation or valid legal process
10. Coaches, athletes and minors
Tempo is designed as a tool for coaches and other responsible adults. A user who enters information about another person is responsible for having an appropriate legal basis, permission or consent to do so and for using that information appropriately.
This is especially important when the athlete is a child. Coaches, clubs and organisations should follow their own safeguarding, consent and privacy obligations and should secure the device on which Tempo is used.
Tempo does not knowingly collect children's personal information on a Tempo-operated server because Tempo does not operate such a server.
11. User choices and control
Users can:
- Edit or delete athlete profiles in Tempo
- Delete individual sessions from History
- Change Bluetooth, Location and Motion permissions in iOS Settings
- Stop location processing by ending the active workout
- Delete the app to remove its local data from the device, subject to Apple-managed backups
- Manage App Store purchases, refunds and purchase history through Apple
12. Security
Tempo relies on iOS app sandboxing and the security of the user's device to protect locally stored information. Users should protect their device with a passcode or biometric security and restrict access to authorised people.
No method of electronic storage is completely secure. Users are responsible for maintaining appropriate physical and device security, particularly when Tempo contains information about other people.
13. International data transfers
Tempo does not transfer athlete, heart-rate, workout or location information to us or to a Tempo-operated server in another country. If a person contacts us directly, their communication may be processed in locations used by our email or support provider.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when Tempo's features or legal obligations change. The updated policy will be published at the same web address with a revised effective date. Material changes may also be communicated through the app or App Store listing where appropriate.
